Japanese New Year Card
Only straight lines are used in this design, and it serves the purpose of new year card (nengajou 年賀状) since it says ニューイヤー, “new year” in Japanese letters, katakana. Katakana is usually used for foreign words. Nengajou is a traditonal way of wishing a good fortune for the year and thanking for the past year, so it is unusual to use non-Japanese words, but it gives a modern feeling here. The red dot represents a human head and it looks like a stick figure taking a pose. At the same time, the red circle are used to reorients the Sun in Japan and Japanese New Year holidays.
